Cutting tool

I wish that there should have been a cutting tool.

My requirement is as follows:

I would like to draw figures similar to those shown in the following links:

I tried by using a central rectangle with complete gray filling, following by POLYGON drawing tool to draw the edges so as to represent that the material extends to "infinity" horizontally.

Since I am unable to draw such a think, I felt that it there was a cutting tool, I could have moved along the vertical edges of the rectangle to make it appear as shown in the figure.

If there is any other way to work around the problem, please suggest.

actually I think, you really have to draw the edges manually. But why not just use a spline with some more or less random points?
